65: time to hit the road

Great Smokey Mountains: a range between the Carolinas & Tennessee. Interest piqued by Bewilderment by Richard Powers. Have a read, you’ll like it. There’s a National Park with much natural beauty, and as it turns out, lots of ‘family recreation’ activities.

Fearing rude awakenings by what seem to be daily hour-long massive deluges, since Santa Fe we’ve favored hipcamp (airbnb-like for camping) lodgings & airbnb’s over pitching our own tent.

1st day out: 3 hour hike up to Maddron Bald:
